Just got the 9800, Code Name: Torch, last week and had time to play around with it.
Typically, I love it. It would all depend on the user though and the user's preference.
My First Impressions:
Fell in love the moment I opened the box. Came with all typical cables and booklets and whatnot. I popped the battery in and waited for it to boot up. Surprisingly, the phone booted up in less than a minute which is typically quick compared to most other Blackberrys. My first Blackberry (the 9000), took almost 5 minutes to reboot.
The 3 different inputs is also great for users who wish to try different styles. There is the touch screen, the track pad, and of course the slide-out keyboard.
Personally, I like the slide out keyboard when typing compared to the touch screen keyboard. However, I have been practicing because I like the fact that it is included as well as the landscape view of the keyboard as well.
Now the touch screen when switching or "swiping" through is slightly sluggish compared to the iPhone or Android phones. However, I have gotten used to it and it is not as bad as most reviews were pointing out. If you by chance think that the swiping is "too" sluggish, you could always use the trackpad which moves between screens at awesome speeds.
The phone itself feels good and solid. A little on the heavy end but personally, I like it. The sliding mechanism that is part of the device works flawlessly. Nothing gets stuck, nothing gets scratched, nothing over extends or breaks.. it literally feels like I can slide it open 999999 times and it'll still go strong.
All in all, I am very impressed with this phone especially moving up from the 9700 (Bold 2).
At first I was quite hesitant to purchase it due to the bad reviews and the fanboys/girls generally saying how bad the Torch is even though THEY haven't tried it.. so what I did was instead of listening to people who don't know what they were talking about, I went out and got one and tested it myself and to prove everyone wrong, I love the phone.
I definitely recommend it to new and current Blackberry users! oh and I must also mention, the new OS6 is stellar!
